Tuesday Oct 14, 2014
Science 7- Students submitted their yeast lab reports.  Some are still outstanding; get them in.  Students got their first tests for science back.  Students entered corrections and had opportunity to ask questions.  Students were presented with their next project for the next little while.  Students are to report on the Northern Gateway Pipeline tentatively due for Friday Oct 24, 2014.  Class ended with a discussion on energy flow through ecosystems.  Homeworkà finish energy flow through ecosystems questions on worksheet and start researching about the Northern Gateway.

Math 8-  Students got back their chapter 1 tests and class went through the test answers marking in corrections if needed.  Time was allotted for questions and clarifications.  After the test was reviewed students started chapter two on Integers and were assigned workbook pages 29 &30 to complete for tomorrow.

Wood Technology  7- .  Students completed safety for additional power equipment and continued making their hand tools introductory “lap joint” project.  Students were reminded to bring back in their forms and course fee.

Science 8.  Science 8 students presented their cell models complete with songs, poems, and skits.  Very well done!  Presenting in front of peers is a very demanding task.  After presentations students wrote a quiz on cells and cell systems.  Homework-à start brainstorming what microbe/pathogen you’d like to create a ‘Wanted Poster’ for.

 

Math 7:  Students went over their chapter 1 tests.  Students entered corrections onto their tests and had time to ask questions.  After reviewing class’s test students started a new chapter on Integers.  Students started working on workbook questions on page 31 and were to finish it for tomorrow.  Homework WB pg 31.

Science 7- Students completed their first lab for science 7 on yeast.  Yeast formed part of their unit of study on ecosystems as a decomposing agent.  Homework- students are to have a lab report to submit on Tuesday Oct 14.  Also, students if not already have done so, can be working on submitting their wood web project which was due for today Friday Oct 10. 

Math 8-  Homework- read introduction to Integers in your workbooks and textbook in preparation for start-up of second unit.

Wood Technology  8-  Day 2 of woodworking 8.  Students completed safety for additional power equipment and continued making their hand tools introductory “lap joint” project.  A safety demonstration for the band saw which students have already started using was also completed.

Math 8 & Science 8 did not meet today.  However, for Science 8 students should have a cell model and have prepped for a quick showcasing of their work for Tuesday.  Remember to have a poem or song to go with your presentation and to be able to identify where the organelles are located on your model and what their functions are.

Oct 8, 2014

 Math 8-  Students  wrote Unit 1 test on square numbers and Pythagoras.  Integers next!

Science 7- Student wrote a quiz on ecosystems today.  Students prepared for Fridays lab formulating a hypothesis and getting report headings ready.

Wood Technology  8-  Day 1 of woodworking 8.  Students were given an overview of what they would be learning and building over the year.  Students started a safety package and ended the day with a  hand tools only project.

Homework for Wednesday Oct 8:  Finish Food Chains and Food Web W/S questions.

Study for tomorrow’s Science test.  Create a review sheet!!

 

Math 8

Study for unit 1 test tomorrow.  Utilize the review section of your texts and the review document given out in class.

 

Science 8

Finish cells and cell systems questions WS 2.1.  Prepare your lab report for Thurs.  Formulate a hypothesis on what you think will happen.

 

Math 7

Finish unit 1 review on workbook pages 27 &28.  Start preparing for Thursdays test.

Math 8

Class reviewed their weekend homework (pg 23, &24) in their workbooks.  Students started an extra practice review booklet.  Homework: complete extra practice 1,2,3,&4 for tomorrow.  Unit 1 test on Wednesday Oct 8, during period 2. 

 

Math 7

Class reviewed their weekend homework (pg 20, 21).  Section 1.8 was covered as a class.  Homework: start review for unit 1 by completing WB pages 25&26.  Unit 1 test on Thursday Oct 9, 2014.

 

Science 7

Class reviewed and checked their homework – Unit 1 review sheet and Work Sheet 1.6 –“Interactions of Living things”.  Jaguars then stated section 2.1 in their textbooks.  Homework- finish “food for all” worksheet for tomorrow.

Science 8

Class reviewed osmosis and diffusion worksheet that was assigned as weekend homework.  A reminder went out to get in Onion lab reports.  Lab#2 will take place Thursday Oct 9.  Cells project due Friday Oct 10.  End of lab review sheets were started.  Homework:  Onion lab report and a review sheet for tomorrow.

Science 7

Students today started reviewing their fist chapter of study on ecosystems.  Emphasis was placed on how to summarize and place the most important points into their review.  A one page restriction was placed on the length of their review/summary sheet.  Homework for Monday Oct 6- Finish creating a review sheet which they are allowed to use during their first test first block Tuesday Oct 7.  Food web assignment is due Friday Oct 10. 

Science 8

Jaguars learnt the principles of Osmosis and Diffusion for cell survival.  Homework- finish diffusion & osmosis worksheet.  Cells projects due Friday Oct 10.  Many students still need to get in their lab reports from Wednesdays lab. 

Math 8

Students finished their first math unit today on square roots and Pythagorean Theorem.  Unit review exercises on WB pg 23, 24 &25 were started in class and are to be finished for homework by Monday.  Unit 1 test is scheduled for Wednesday.

Math 7

Jaguars today in had a lesson reading and writing equations.  Students started workbook problems on page 20 &21.  Homework is to finish workbook pages 20&21 for Monday.

Sept 29 - Oct 3

Math 8

Students are progressing through their first unit of study on squares, square roots, and Pythagoras.
Work Pages 10 & 12 were finished Tuesday and Workbook pages 14, 16, 17 were completed Wednesday.  The unit will be wrapped up next week with a review and test.

Math 7.

Last week students looked at patterns in divisibility and divisibility rules.  Students this week have been looking at basic algebra with expressions and equations.  Work book pages 10 & 11 were completed for Tuesday and workbook exercises on pages 13, 15, &16 were completed Wednesday.

Science 7

Students are currently in the midst of their unit of study on ecosystems.  Students have studies the decline in amphibians and Guiyu.  Sections 1.1-1.4 have been covered thus far.  Worksheets for each section for comprehension are to be completed and are on the homework site for reference.

Science 8

Students are in the midst of learning about cells and how they function.  Section 1.1- 1.4 have been covered.  Students are completing exercises and worksheets as they progress through the unit.  Student completed experiment 1.4 on Wednesday.  Chapter will wrap up next week with review and upcoming test.
