Winter Vacation! No homework!  Enjoy a well deserved holiday.

Wildcats had Math, English, Computers, PE, and Exploratory today.  Students presented on their assigned countries and how they celebrate Christmas during English, and calculated areas of their footprints during Math.  No homework. 

Wildcats were treated to a walking field trip down to the Cineplex to watch "The Good Dinosaur".  In Advisory students were assigned countries in their groups from a document titled "Christmas Around the World".  Homework- read the page on your country in preparation for your presentation.

Wildcats had PE, Math, Exploratory, Art, and Computers today.  Homework- No homework other than putting the finishing touches on your three projects due tomorrow Wed Dec 16:
 1. Math- Unit Problem:  pg # 156 in MMS text,
2. Science- Wanted Bacteria Poster,
3.  English- Short Story. 

Div 6-7 will be rock climbing in the new year!  A BIG thank you to all parents that have volunteered their time and vehicles to taxi our kids for this activity.

School District 62 (Sooke) has defined our indoor rock climbing field trip to The Boulders Climbing Gym at Stelly's School as a "moderate risk" activity and, in accordance with district policy, we have been directed to hold a meeting with parents to sign the consent/waiver form and be available to answer questions face-to-face.  Unfortunately, permission forms cannot be sent home to be signed and at least one parent must attend an in-person meeting with the field trip leader/teacher in order for their child to participate in this activity.

 Despite the additional time and energy this will take for everyone, the Grade 6 Team of teachers have all agreed that the field trip is worth this additional effort and we will be holding two field trip meetings to better accommodate parents and get this done so we can still go on this field trip.

 The mandatory field trip meetings will take place on Monday, Dec. 14 @ 5:30pm and Tuesday, Dec. 15 @ 6:00pm in Spencer's Library and they should each be about 20 minutes.

 Thank you for your patience and understanding.  See you on either Monday or Tuesday evening.

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 The cost for each student is normally $5...but because our price for next week's Movie Field Trip was reduced, the money saved has reduced the cost of our Indoor Rock Climbing FIeld Trip to $2.

Wildcats had Math, English, Computers, Exploratory, and PE today.  Wildcats reviewed their angle quizzes today and spent the rest of class working with Perimeter and Area problems.  Homework- finish your blue exercise package on perimeter and area.  English-Wildcats discussed strategies to include thoughts and feelings in their stories and why having their main character share thoughts and feelings would be important.  The end of class was devoted to short story study.  Assignment due dates are creeping up; don't leave your work to the last minute!

Homework tonight:  Finish your Fungi exercise (Science) questions 1-6, and for Math finish questions questions 3-5 on perimeter and area in your blue handout.  Assignments due next week should be getting attention too.

Wildcats had PE, Exploratory, Math, and constructed individual snowmen as part of the school wide holiday door decorating contest.  Students reviewed finding angles on lines, at points, in triangles, and in parallel lines.  Homework-Math: review your angle laws for tomorrows angles quiz. Assignment due date closer than they appear! Time is creeping up.  Next week your short stories (typed drafts) your bacteria 'Wanted Posters' and your math 'Unit Problem' on page 156 are all due Wednesday Dec 16th.

Wildcats had Math, Science, Computers, and PE today.  Homework:  Math:  Review your angle laws you've been practicing during class.  Laws for parallel lines, angles on a line, and angles at a point.  Science:  Finish 'Day 2 Bacteria' exercise for Monday.  English:  Continue drafting your short stories.  Less than 2 weeks left until they're due!  Enjoy your weekend.

Wildcats had their first grade six meeting in the theatre since the early fall.  Appropriate behaviour inside Spencer Middle School during Lunch and Recess was stressed along with appropriate use of cell phones.  Wildcats had Math, English, P.E., Exploratory, and Computer lab today.  Math:  Students reviewed the 10 shapes they learnt last day and the angle laws with parallel lines.   English- students composed a checklist of items all good short stories have and strategies to achieve success.  The rules for correctly punctuating dialogue in stories were taught.  Computer lab- Wildcats worked on their choice of either typing up their short story or on researching and constructing their bacterial "Wanted" posters that are due Wed Dec 16.  Homework:  Math- finish your angle exercise with parallel lines- questions 18-31.  English-review your vocabulary and chip away at your short story that is due Wed Dec 16th as well.

Hump day.  Wildcats had a busy hardworking day.  Math, Science, Computer Lab, English, and Art.  In Math students reviewed the rules of measuring and drawing different angles and were introduced to angle laws for triangles and angles in parallel lines.  During English, students read their first science fiction story for grade six.  Characteristics that make Sci Fi successful were discussed.  In Science students were introduced to a new life form- Bacteria.  Wildcats learnt the basics of bacteria and then were given a "Wanted" Bacteria caused disease assignment during our computer lab period.  The poster is due Wed Dec 16th, the same day the draft short stories are to be submitted for holiday reviews.  Homework:  Math- finish up to question 17 in your new angles "Smart Math" exercise.   Science:  Finish your 7 Bacteria comprehension questions for tomorrow.  Remember to have your agenda signed by your parent/guardians within the last week for tomorrows agenda check.  It is recommended that you plug away at your Science and English assignments  (poster and short story)due in two weeks.

Wildcats had P.E., Math, Exploratory, French, and guest speaker Mrs. Becker for Socials.  Homework- Finish the package on angles we worked on in class today (Unit4 Studentbook up to page 57), and review the ten shapes from todays exercise.  If you don't have a protractor yet, make a paper one.  French. homework- know your possessive adjectives for Thursdays quiz. 

Wildcats on balls.  Thanks to financial support from parents, and encouragement from Spencer staff, div 6-7 had a successful fist day with a half class room set of stability/exercise balls.  Students were assigned partners to share these 'pro health & posture seats' throughout the days to come.  Wildcats  wrote their Unit 2 test today in Math on Integers, Factoring, Multiples, and Order of Operations.  Students organized their desks and portfolio's and celebrated the end of the week and their math unit test watching a BBC LIFE  nature film that showcased all the vertebrates students have been studying the past two weeks.  Homework--> Find a current event article from the internet or a newspaper for Monday's advisory.  Math:  Preview Unit 4 in your MMS text.  We will be looking at Angles and Geometry in our next math unit.  English:  Continue to brainstorm your short story main characters and their problems/conflicts they will face.  Writing Letter #2 might be on your 'oops I forgot' list of things to do this weekend; it was due Nov 25th.  Enjoy your sunny weekend.   

Wildcats had Math, Science, PE, Exploratory, and Socials today.  Math:  Wildcats were given a Practice Test/Review Package.  Homework- study and finish the review package for tomorrow.  Bring your review package to attach to tomorrows test.  Science-  Wildcats wrote their Vertebrates quiz today.  Protozoa, Plants, and Bacteria left in Life Unit.   Next unit- electricity.  Socials:  Class looked at the history of ISIS, or ISIL or the Islamic state.  No Science or Socials homework.  Study for tomorrows Math test tonight and get your second book letter submitted Friday if you missed the Wednesday due date.

Wildcat Wednesday a busy day.  Students had Math, Science, English, and Socials today.  Class reviewed Integers today in Math, reviewed the five Vertebrates in Science, discussed Narrative hooks, wrote a vocab quiz, and read 'the visitor' during English.  Homework-->Math:  review unit two in preparation for Fridays unit test:  suggested you look over the unit review 'show what you know"  Science:  review the vertebrates for tomorrows quiz on vertebrates--> Fish, Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, and Birds.  English- homework- finish your 'Visitor' RC questions and continue brainstorming and working your short story draft.

Ruby Tuesday.  Wildcats had Math, Science, French, and PE today.  During Math students reviewed Order of Operations (BEDMAS).  Homework- finish your order of operations exercise.  Science- students started constructing their Vertebrates review/cheat sheets; no homework but reviewing the facts is a good idea.  French- Wildcats were introduced to possessive adjectives my, your, his, her, our, your, and their.  No homework but reviewing the concepts learnt is never a bad idea.

Wildcat Monday.  Students had Math, Science, English, Art, and Exploratory today.  Students spent math class investigating 'order of operations' with BEDMAS.  Homework-- finish BEDMAS exercise (pg#40).  In Science students reviewed the characteristics of Fish and crafted fish questions and answers to aid in review.  During English students brainstormed 'considerations in creating a character' and read a short story about a penny.  Homework- start crafting your main character for your story and review your 'D' words vocab for tomorrows vocab quiz.

Wildcat Wednesday.  Wildcats had Math, Science, Socials, English and Art today.  Wildcats during Science were introduced to their last vertebrate, Fish.  In Math students wrote a LCM and GCF quiz that gauged students grasp of factoring.  During Socials Wildcats finished their world religion charts, and in English Wildcats were introduced to the concept of Theme in stories, and the idea that all stories need problems or conflict.  Homework- bring your agenda to class tomorrow signed by your parents (agendas are being checked weekly on Thursdays for signatures) and compile a list of 'problems in fiction' as a first step towards students figuring out their short stories.

Wildcats had PE, Math, Science, and Socials today.  Students reviewed GCF and LCM today during math and should prepare for a LCM and GCF quiz tomorrow.  Wildcats reviewed birds with some birds trivia, and researched worlds religions during socials.  Homework- finish the fish, and boy/girls problems on page 68 of your MMS textbook, and create a list of items important for making 'good fiction' or stories.

Wildcats had Math, Science, Socials and PE Friday.  Students reviewed multiples and factors during math and ended class with a quiz on multiples and factors.  Science- Wildcats finished their 'bird' required class work.  Socials- the last UN presentations were undertaken.  No Homework this weekend for Wildcats on top of their game.   Recommended- a self directed review of multiples and factors and catching up on late work -the Math unit assignment "At the Apiary" that was due Friday.  Many students will be handing this in on Monday.

Organization Thursday.  Wildcats had a more thorough organization check of their binders, desks, and bank/portfolios.  Students were told that they need to have their agendas signed once a week and that during 'organization' Thursday they'll be required to show proof of a parent signature from the past week.  Wildcats had Math, Science, English, and PE today.  Homework:  Math- Finish your practice quiz at home tonight.  Science:  Review 'birds' concepts from today.  Tomorrow will be our last period devoted to this vertebrate. 

Wildcats were treated to a beautiful Remembrance Day assembly Tuesday.  Homework:  Wildcats have four math questions on multiples and factors to complete for Thursday (questions 6, 7, 8, 9).  Final copies of wildcats first poems, and a wrap up of the UN mini presentations should be noted for Thursday too.  Enjoy your day off.

Wildcat Monday.  Wildcats had Math, Science, English, and Art today.  Wildcats explored the world of Multiples and Factors during Math.  Homework- finish questions 3-14 on your multiples and factors exercise handout.  Science-  Wildcats explored the world of Amphibians today.  Homework- finish your amphibian questions if you didn't get them done during class (most finished).  English- Wildcats started a longer short story they read together as a class about a father and son at a boy scouts function that they will finish tomorrow.  Homework- have your conflict and resolution skit and your poem ready for later this week, on Thursday Nov 12.  Wildcats decorated a Remembrance day wreath for tomorrows assembly to end the day. 

Wildcats had English, Science, French, PE, and Music today.  Restitution and bullying was discussed today in advisory.  During English students read a short story about bullying.  Reptiles were introduced during Science.  Homework:  Math- Page 22 in your MMS homework book.  English:  Study for 'C' words quiz tomorrow. 

Wildcat Wednesday.  Students had English, Science, Math, Socials, and Art.  Homework- Math: MMS practice and homework booklet page 21.  Language Arts:  bring your poems in tomorrow for peer review and editing.

Wildcats had PE, Math, Computers, and Socials today.  Math:  Students reviewed multiplication and division with decimals and were introduced to multiples.  PE:  Students did their weekly fitness test and then played alley ball.  Computers:  Lab was booked for students to research and type up assignments of their choice.  Socials:  We had three presentations today on the UN.  Student audience participated with adjudication forms they filled out after each presentation.  Homework:  Math- MMS practice and homework booklet page 20.  Science:  Study for invertebrates quiz tomorrow and remember your purple 'cheat' sheets.  Craft two questions with answers on invertebrates, and we use your questions tomorrow or later on a unit review.  Remember to bring in your progress reports signed by your parents that went out Thursday last week.

Wildcat Monday- Wildcats had Math, Science, English and Art today.  Homework:  Math- Page# 18 & 19 in MMS Practice and Homework book.  Wildcats also have their Northern Gateway project due Thursday, and start their mini presentations on departments of the UN Wednesday. 

A spooky Friday.  Wildcats filled out their invertebrate review (cheat sheet) on purple paper.  The review sheets will aid students on their animals tasks down the road.  Wildcats had a computer lab hour to work on their assignments.  Most students were working on finding information for their UN presentations that start next week.  The rest of the day was devoted to enjoying Halloween and the Halloween dance.  Homework- make a draft copy of your free verse poem for Monday.  Remember to start your poem within, use I, break for pauses, and that your last line is the most significant.  Happy Halloween!

Wildcats had English, Science, and French today.  Homework- review the five invertebrates we have covered for Science.  English:  Wildcats need a draft free verse poem for Monday.  Ideas for their poems should naturally derive from their 'hear map' exercise.

Dip in the Pool.  Wildcats had a blast today at Commonwealth Pool.  It was amazing to see the entire grade six population enjoy the day together.  Thank you to all the parents that taxied our classes to and from the pool.  No Homework.

Thank you to all parents that have volunteered their time to taxi students for our field trip to Commonwealth Pool tomorrow.  Drivers, please show up at Spencer at 10am to finalize the paperwork in the main office.  We plan on departing from the school at 10:30 after Recess.
Pickup/departure is set for 2pm to get students back to Spencer by 2:20pm.

Wildcat Monday.  Today Wildcats looked at the 3 forms of numbers, and explored large numbers up to a google.  Homework- finish your million task (how long would a million erasers (each 3cm) add up to in distance).  Science- class reviewed expectations for a lab report that is due Wednesday.  Six required headings:  Question, Hypothesis, Material, Procedure, Data & Observations, and Conclusion.  Homework- finish your 5 Echinoderm questions.  English- no homework, but a book letter is due Wednesday.

***Call out to all parents, the Commonwealth field trip for Wednesday Oct 28 is at risk of being cancelled.  Many divisions, including div 6-7, need more parent volunteers.  Right now our class has spots in vehicles for 15 students or only half the class.  Three to four more volunteers are needed to make this trip happen.

Wildcat Tuesdays; class had PE, Math, Socials, and French today.  Homework:  Math- Study your practice test and your Unit #1 concept review for tomorrows Unit test.  Socials- Finish question #2- Chapter 2- "Write out "The Convention on the Rights of the Child" neatly and clearly.  French- Pourquoi take French assignment (now overdue).  Study your numbers and greetings.

Wildcats had Math, Science, English and Art today.  Homework:  Math- finish your unit one practice test.  Tomorrow we are reviewing them and Wednesday will the real thing.  Science- finish your 5 questions on the Mollusk (many finished this during class).  Make a list of things important to you and that are close to your heart.

Wildcat weekend homework:  Math- Finish unit one review "Show What you Know" on page 40 in your textbook;  Science- Finish 'Worms' exercise questions for Monday (some hardworking Wildcats finished this feat during class.  Socials- chapter 2 questions 1-5.

Friday October 9, 2015.  Wildcats had a very inspiring and entertaining assembly about making the right choices in life by Legacy One.  Peter Pot seemed to be the school favorite.  Wildcats had a modified morning schedule to accommodate the assembly.  Wildcats looked were introduced or reintroduced depending on former schools to long division.  Pre-Algebra expresions and balancing equations was also reviewed.  Homework--> finish Long Division exercises (side with fish only) and page 136&37 algebra.  Science:  Wildcats practiced classifying life and explaining their characteristics.  Homework-->1) finish your classification booklet page 9 titled "Diversity of Living Things:  Define the following words related to Animal Diversity." 2) Find a newspaper or online news article related to Life Science and bring it to class Tuesday.  Socials:  No class Friday b/c of assembly.  Homework--> finish if you haven't already your "why vote" ideas and be ready to share them with the class.


 

Wildcats had English, Math, French, P.E., and Music today.  Math:  Students wrote a quiz today on Pre-Algebra and multiplication.  Homework--> finish pre Algebra exercises handout with diagrams of scales on it page 136, 137.  English-  Student got their memoirs back with comments.  Class was given examples of how to write with purpose, and warned about falling into Journal like writing.  Homework--> complete a second draft of your memoir making the necessary adjustments for Wed Oct 14.  French--Class reviewed numbers and common French phrases.

The Spencer Annual Terry Fox run took place today.  It was great to see the entire school out running the circuit together.  Remember tomorrow is your last chance to bring in donations for the school Terry Fox fundraiser.  Wildcats today had Math Science, Socials, and Art.  Math homework--> finish your PreAlgebra "Chicken Farmer" puzzle.  Science--> class today put the 5 kingdoms together in a chart as a class on the board.  Class discussed differences under a microscope that would be evident between Monera, Protist, Animal, and Plant cells.  Homework--> review concepts in chapter two of your Science probe and from your notes; a quiz is due soon.  Socials--> class discussed the history of the vote and how it is only in recent times that everyone has had the right to vote.  Ideas on why it is important to vote and how to increase voter turnout were discussed.  Homework--> on your planning page 2.3 create a message on why voting is important and why you should always vote.  English--> no homework but get your memoir draft copy in tomorrow if you forgot today.

Wildcats today had P.E., Math, French, and Science.  In Math today students reviewed Pre-Algebra expression and had a Pre-Algebra puzzle they worked on in their teams.  Homework--> finish question 1 on page #136 of Pre-Algebra exercises.  During French class students learnt common French phrases like "I understand", "get up" and "stop".  Homework--> review and practice the phrases; you need to learn or remember them.  During Science Wildcats had the computer lab booked and started research for their Northern Gateway projects due on Thursday Nov 5th.  no homework.  Remember to bring in your Terry Fox donations, and your Entertainment book sale proceeds tomorrow.  Don't forget that your example Entertainment book needs to come back if you haven't sold it.  We will be ordering the Entertainment books as soon as we tally up the total sales.

Wildcats had Math, Science, English and Art today.  In Math class Wildcats were presented with a bunny multiplication pattern to solve in teams during start up.  Coordinates were reviewed.  Class ended with an introduction to Algebra or Pre-Algebra.  Homework--> finish questions 1-5 on your Pre-Algebra exercise sheet.  Science-  Wildcats had their next assignment introduced which is on the Northern Gateway Pipeline project.  Students finished class with a general look at categorization.  Homework--> finish page 5 in your science classifications package.  English-->  class had their first vocab quiz on 'A' letter words.  Class then moved into a reading comprehension exercise on ancient China, and finished with a look at the idea of  a 'writing audience'.  Homework--> get your memoir first copy submissions ready for Wednesday Oct 7th.  Art--> students were introduced to Symmetry and Mirrored Images to prepare them for their next task:  their name in block letters symmetrically mirrored.

Wildcats had their first school assembly today during period three.  French class was cancelled as a result.  English class was split between reading strategy for comprehension and writing.  Students read a passage on the Mayans after which they had time to work their memoir writing piece.  In Math Wildcats continued with patterns and multiplication.  A very brief introduction to equations took place right before the assembly.  Homework--> pages 12&13 in your MMS practice and homework booklet.

Wildcats Wednesdays.  Wildcats had Math, Science, English, Socials, and Art today.  In Math students reviewed multiplication with and without a box.  Homework-> finish your multiplication exercise (back side too).  Bonus math question presented (optional work) on Mrs Peabody's egg basket.  Science--> students had a detailed look at the five kingdoms of life (Animal Kingdom) and another Five category--> the five categories of vertebrate animals.  Homework--> finish your 5 column chart on vertebrates provided during class.  English:  During English Div 6-7 had some awesome additional help from two grade 8 peer tutors.  A class reading on 'Twins' took half the class.  Remaining time was given for student to work on their Memoirs.  Emphasis was placed on not writing in a 'Journal" like manner.  Writing with a purpose was the message.  Students brainstormed ideas and started rough drafting.  Homework--> refine your drafts and get ready for next weeks memoir submission or Due date- Oct 8th.
Socials.  Wildcats were introduced to the Student Vote that Spencer grade 6 is participating in.  For the next two weeks socials class will include government and voting emphasis that will culminate in a student vote for Canada's next government.  No homework.
Art.  Wildcats were busy putting finishing details on their personal portraits of themselves they are constructing.  Photos of students were printed to assist in their drawings.

Wildcats had Math, Socials, French, and P.E.  In math students practiced multiplication via tables and were introduced to the break apart and add multiplication method.  Math Homework-->Complete the first twelve (first two rows) of multiplication (3 digit by 2 digit).  Socials--> class broke out into their teams and discussed and answered questions on global citizenship.  Class ended with a look at the plight of the worlds amphibians which linked to our current study of biodiversity in Science.  Socials homework--> Preview chapter two.  (Scan and quick read)  French:  In French class Wildcats reviewed their numbers and were introduced to the days of the week, and months of the year.  Pronunciation and spelling was stressed.  French Homework--> numbers and days of week exercises.   In Physical Education Wildcats continued their Football unit.  Gym strips will be mandatory for participation on the expensive and delicate matts of the mezzanine starting after Oct 9th.

Wildcats had their first official assignment submission today- their potato lab reports.  Policy with regards to late work was discussed; assignments handed in late lose the ability to score in the Excellent or 'A' range.  This will encourage punctual work and more responsibility.  In math today Wildcats were introduced to multiplication tables for multiplying double and triple digit numbers.  Homework--> finish your multiplication boxes for homework.  In Science the class discussed biodiversity, in particular the divisions to the animal kingdom and their peculiarities.  Reptiles, Birds, Fish, Mammals, and Amphibians.  Homework--> Potato lab.  Many submissions were returned b/c they lacked the lab report required headings and information.  Creature submission is due Wednesday.  During English students had some 'writers workshop' brainstorming and crafting memoir.  Homework--> for Wednesday have a topic selected and evidence of brainstorming.
Remember to bring in your immunization forms.

Wildcats had a productive Friday with Math, Science, Socials, and PE.  Math--> students reviewed concepts looked at over past week and half.  Math Homework--> finish pages 10 &11 in your MMS practice/homework booklet.  Science--> wildcats wrote a quiz on characteristics of living organisms.  Afterwards, bizarre and unusual animals were looked at.  Class ended with a reminder on how to write first Lab report due on Monday, Sept 28. (see appendix as reference if you forget).  Homework for Science--> Potato Lab report due on Monday, Sept 28   In Social Studies the class discussed global citizenship and the UN.  Homework--> finish page one of chapter one questions, and find a picture of significance to you to fit your allotted 8.5" x 11" area on the back bulletin board.

Wildcats had a busy day.  Math, Science, English, & Art.  Class reinforced and reviewed concepts covered thus far in preparation for tomorrows Math quiz.  Class reviewed patterns, input/output, and coordinates.  Homework--> finish pages 8 & 9 in your MMS homework booklet & prep for quiz.
Science-  Class reviewed characteristics of living and non-living things, the scientific method, and was introduced to how living things are classified in Science.  Homework-->  finish Scientific Method example of your own creation exercise and prep for tomorrows quiz in Science.  You need to know the characteristics of living organisms, the scientific method, and the five categories of living things--Kingdoms.  During English students got closer to being ready to start their first piece of writing-- a memoir.  Students were giving guiding questions that help shape memoir.

Wildcats had P.E., Math, Socials, Music, and French today.  In P.E. students were introduced to a new football drill to sharpen defense and offense skills.  Wildcats in Math were introduced to the coordinate system in graphing.  During Socials Wildcats continued investigating the idea of global citizen and human rights.  Universal health care, and the growing gap between rich and poor was discussed.  In French, students were introduced to 'Introduction' phrases and a look at why studying French is important via Etienne.  Homework-->  Math-  Finish your coordinate puzzle (Burglar in Tuba Factory) French--> finish 'Why/Pourquoi take French'. 

Picture day!  Students enjoyed an extended nutrition today to accommodate a school wide BBQ with music.  Awesome.  Wildcats continued with patterns in Math, the Scientific Method in Science, and human rights and the United Nations in Socials.  Homework-->  Math- pg#6&7 in MMS workbook.  Science--> finish the Scientific Method- Control and Variables Part 2 handout.

Don't procrastinate.  Break the tasks down into smaller jobs to reduce your stress and increase the success.

Wildcats in Advisory today discussed teamwork, and conflict.  Students in div 6-7 today had their first French block.  A review of pronunciation, numbers, and basic greetings was stressed.  In English students had read and responded to "Weird Teenager Trends" and looked at the origins of many common words in the English language.  Wildcats continued in math with patterns and input/output. Homework:  Finish your "Whats Next" w/s on patterns for tomorrow.  Don't forget tomorrow is picture day!  Bring your picture forms.

Wildcats had their academic Wednesday - (no exploratory or PE) today.  During Math Wildcats looked at encryption (codes) and had 2 codes to crack in their team.  Input/output  was also covered. In Science students looked at the diversity of life and how amazing it is.  The loss of wildlife was discussed.  The negatives and positives of wildlife rescue were stressed.  Socials studies was introduced and the class discussed the four themes of social studies:  Culture, Economy, Environment, and Government.  Students started their look at the global citizenship with a look at how peoples rights in other parts of the world are lacking.  Case study of Guiyu and electronics recycling was given to highlight the theme of global village.  Wildcats also had their first English class today.  Students were told that they would be deciding their writing topics this year but that they would need a reference or list of inspirational ideas to refer to.  Wildcats crafted their lists with guiding questions provided and titiled their lists 'Writing Territories'.
Homework:  Wildcats are getting accustomed to the idea of recording in their agendas their homework.  Homework tonight- finish your writing territories lists, and pages 3&4 in your math homework booklet.

Friday:  Wildcats had there first homework and agenda check.  During first block students in div 6-7 had their library orientation.  Block two was devoted to finishing the consequences portion to our classroom social contract.  Block three students finished up their poems and started their first art project:  A self portrait using an enlarged photo from first day pictures.  Wildcats record their homework in their agendas every day, and should be getting their parents to initial them every night.  Homework this weekend:  Get two binders; one for staying in the class and one for taking home(traveler).  Organize your classroom binder with tabs/dividers for the following subjects:  English, Socials, Science, Math, French.  The second binder (the traveler) will be needed for taking school work home. 

A day of firsts.  Wildcats shared past experiences at school and characters they would most like to be able to spend time with during advisory.   Div 6-7 Wildcats completed experienced their first classroom meeting and voted on the classrooms 'seven keys' to success, which formulates the expectation part of the classroom social contract.  Seven items were agreed to suit division seven.  First experiences in the gym and a first fire drill as well.  Homework- finish your 11 line autobiographical poem.

Div 6-7 Wildcats were busy today getting acquainted with classroom routines, expectations, locks,
agenda use, and most importantly getting to know their classmates.  Students crafted star personalities, thought about their goals and contributions for the upcoming school year, and got a great start to our classrooms social contract.  Homework-- get the following forms signed and brought back to class:  info. verification, video consent, aboriginal, photo, classroom letter, and money envelope.  Also remember to bring a gym strip as we have PE tomorrow.

 

Math 8-Continued with data management and probability.  Homeworkà finish page 1 and 2 on  probability 7.2 for Tuesday.  Probability game presentation should also be prepped for Thursday June 4^th.

Math 7- Jags were introduced to equations today in algebra.  Homeworkà review how to isolate and solve for variables in equations.

Science 8- Robot construction.  Homeworkà ensure you’ve picked a geologic feature and a format that works for you.  This is due Thursday May 28.
