Winter Vacation! No homework!  Enjoy a well deserved holiday.

Wildcats had Math, English, Computers, PE, and Exploratory today.  Students presented on their assigned countries and how they celebrate Christmas during English, and calculated areas of their footprints during Math.  No homework. 

Wildcats were treated to a walking field trip down to the Cineplex to watch "The Good Dinosaur".  In Advisory students were assigned countries in their groups from a document titled "Christmas Around the World".  Homework- read the page on your country in preparation for your presentation.

Wildcats had PE, Math, Exploratory, Art, and Computers today.  Homework- No homework other than putting the finishing touches on your three projects due tomorrow Wed Dec 16:
 1. Math- Unit Problem:  pg # 156 in MMS text,
2. Science- Wanted Bacteria Poster,
3.  English- Short Story. 

Div 6-7 will be rock climbing in the new year!  A BIG thank you to all parents that have volunteered their time and vehicles to taxi our kids for this activity.

IMPORTANT!!!

 

School District 62 (Sooke) has defined our indoor rock climbing field trip to The Boulders Climbing Gym at Stelly's School as a "moderate risk" activity and, in accordance with district policy, we have been directed to hold a meeting with parents to sign the consent/waiver form and be available to answer questions face-to-face.  Unfortunately, permission forms cannot be sent home to be signed and at least one parent must attend an in-person meeting with the field trip leader/teacher in order for their child to participate in this activity.

 Despite the additional time and energy this will take for everyone, the Grade 6 Team of teachers have all agreed that the field trip is worth this additional effort and we will be holding two field trip meetings to better accommodate parents and get this done so we can still go on this field trip.

 The mandatory field trip meetings will take place on Monday, Dec. 14 @ 5:30pm and Tuesday, Dec. 15 @ 6:00pm in Spencer's Library and they should each be about 20 minutes.

 Thank you for your patience and understanding.  See you on either Monday or Tuesday evening.

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 The cost for each student is normally $5...but because our price for next week's Movie Field Trip was reduced, the money saved has reduced the cost of our Indoor Rock Climbing FIeld Trip to $2.

 Students can bring their $2 any time this week or next week.  

 

 

 

 

Homework Tonight:   Math:   Finish your seven questions assigned to your group for math review of area and perimeter (Exercise titled Measurement).
Science:  Finish your protest and fungi review exercise for tomorrow (many finished this in class).
3 Assignments due on Wednesday- Math Unit Problem, Science -Wanted Poster, and English-fictional short story.

Wildcats had Math, English, Computers, Exploratory, and PE today.  Wildcats reviewed their angle quizzes today and spent the rest of class working with Perimeter and Area problems.  Homework- finish your blue exercise package on perimeter and area.  English-Wildcats discussed strategies to include thoughts and feelings in their stories and why having their main character share thoughts and feelings would be important.  The end of class was devoted to short story study.  Assignment due dates are creeping up; don't leave your work to the last minute!

Homework tonight:  Finish your Fungi exercise (Science) questions 1-6, and for Math finish questions questions 3-5 on perimeter and area in your blue handout.  Assignments due next week should be getting attention too.

Wildcats had PE, Exploratory, Math, and constructed individual snowmen as part of the school wide holiday door decorating contest.  Students reviewed finding angles on lines, at points, in triangles, and in parallel lines.  Homework-Math: review your angle laws for tomorrows angles quiz. Assignment due date closer than they appear! Time is creeping up.  Next week your short stories (typed drafts) your bacteria 'Wanted Posters' and your math 'Unit Problem' on page 156 are all due Wednesday Dec 16th.

Wildcats had Math, Science, Computers, and PE today.  Homework:  Math:  Review your angle laws you've been practicing during class.  Laws for parallel lines, angles on a line, and angles at a point.  Science:  Finish 'Day 2 Bacteria' exercise for Monday.  English:  Continue drafting your short stories.  Less than 2 weeks left until they're due!  Enjoy your weekend.

Wildcats had their first grade six meeting in the theatre since the early fall.  Appropriate behaviour inside Spencer Middle School during Lunch and Recess was stressed along with appropriate use of cell phones.  Wildcats had Math, English, P.E., Exploratory, and Computer lab today.  Math:  Students reviewed the 10 shapes they learnt last day and the angle laws with parallel lines.   English- students composed a checklist of items all good short stories have and strategies to achieve success.  The rules for correctly punctuating dialogue in stories were taught.  Computer lab- Wildcats worked on their choice of either typing up their short story or on researching and constructing their bacterial "Wanted" posters that are due Wed Dec 16.  Homework:  Math- finish your angle exercise with parallel lines- questions 18-31.  English-review your vocabulary and chip away at your short story that is due Wed Dec 16th as well.

Hump day.  Wildcats had a busy hardworking day.  Math, Science, Computer Lab, English, and Art.  In Math students reviewed the rules of measuring and drawing different angles and were introduced to angle laws for triangles and angles in parallel lines.  During English, students read their first science fiction story for grade six.  Characteristics that make Sci Fi successful were discussed.  In Science students were introduced to a new life form- Bacteria.  Wildcats learnt the basics of bacteria and then were given a "Wanted" Bacteria caused disease assignment during our computer lab period.  The poster is due Wed Dec 16th, the same day the draft short stories are to be submitted for holiday reviews.  Homework:  Math- finish up to question 17 in your new angles "Smart Math" exercise.   Science:  Finish your 7 Bacteria comprehension questions for tomorrow.  Remember to have your agenda signed by your parent/guardians within the last week for tomorrows agenda check.  It is recommended that you plug away at your Science and English assignments  (poster and short story)due in two weeks.

Wildcats had P.E., Math, Exploratory, French, and guest speaker Mrs. Becker for Socials.  Homework- Finish the package on angles we worked on in class today (Unit4 Studentbook up to page 57), and review the ten shapes from todays exercise.  If you don't have a protractor yet, make a paper one.  French. homework- know your possessive adjectives for Thursdays quiz.
