Science 7—Jags completed chapter 2 review during class.  Jags then transitioned to the computer lab to work on their Northern Gateway reports.  The reports are now due Wednesday Oct 29, 2014. Homeworkà prepare for tomorrows chapter 2 quiz; remember to make a review sheet.

 Math 8:  Integer and Exponent unit review was completed during class.  Homeworkà make sure you have chapter 2 unit review pg#42-46 complete (yesterday’s homework!) and complete the short five question practice test in your textbook on page 99 in preparation for tomorrows Integer test.

Woodwork 8-  Exploding Outhouses- under construction.  Remember to bring back a signed course form and course fee.

Science 7—Class discussed the water cycle and watched a clip about how water cycles and has been for millions of years.  Jags then started diagraming the Carbon and Water cycles.  Homeworkà finish diagraming the two cycles on the 11x17 paper provided.

Math 7:  Students completed the integers section on diagramming with number lines.  Jags started Integer review.  The WB unit review was completed in class.  Homeworkà complete the practice test on page 81 of your textbook.

Math 8:  Exponents and order of operations were reviewed.  Jags started unit review in their workbooks.  Homeworkà finish Unit 2 review in WB pg42-46.

Science 8-  Students finished notes on digestions and watched a short clip on digestion.  Students then moved on to reading about Unicellular organisms and how they digest.  Homeworkà questions 1-7 page 47.

Woodwork 7- Jags worked on Bird's Bird House. 

Science 7—Class discussed the move in the US to increase fracking as a means to limit dependence on Alberta tar sands.  Pros and Cons and a chart were completed.  Class ended discussing how this all ties into the Carbon cycle.  What carbon is and how it cycles was discussed.  Class ended watching clip on Carbon cycle (4minutes).  HomeworkàRemember to bring pencil crayons or felts for coloring your diagrams tomorrow.  Also finish lab reports on Fridays worm lab and previous Fridays yeast lab if not already complete.  Remember labs are to have the following:  question, hypothesis, materials, procedure, data chart, graph, analysis, conclusion.

Math 7:  Students completed were taught how to demonstrate integer subtraction using number lines.   A review of BEDMAS and order of operations with integers was also covered.  Homework- WB page 42 and W/S “Why is the nose in the middle of your face”.

Math 8:  Class completed an order of operations or BEDMAS review.  Exponents were introduced and their place in the order of operations was stressed.  Homeworkà finish exponents worksheet.

Science 8-  Students had an additional 15 min to finish last week’s chapter 1 quiz.  Quizzes were marked in class.  Jags then transitioned into learning more about the digestive system than the small chart of data provided in their texts.  Homeworkà  Finish lab reports;  should be done by latest, Thursday Oct 23.

Science 7-  Class started with a review of the expectations for their Northern Gateway Pipeline project.  Three example projects were shown so student could better comprehend scope.  A 10 min CBC documentary on the PR war around the pipeline was viewed.  Students were informed of the federal governments’ stance on the pipeline was discussed.  Second block- students transitioned into their second science lab for the year on the response of earthworms Phylum Annelida  to external stimuli.  Students are currently studying ecology and earthworms are a very important part in an ecosystem.  .  Homeworkà Lab report write ups.  Get a lab report in for lab #1 on yeast growth from last Friday if you haven’t already and start putting together your lab report from today’s experiment- lab#3 for Monday. 

 

 Wood Technology  8:   Students started breaking out stock for project 2-Exploding Outhouse.  Students were reminded to bring back signed forms and course fee ASAP.

Math 7- Jaguars went over how to model and evaluate integer values.  Students have for Homeworkà Finish WB up to pg#40.

Science 8-  Students had their weekly computer lab time where they started research on a microbe (bacteria, virus, or protest pathogen) of their choice.  Students are to construct a ‘Wanted’ poster for the microbe they select.  Student finished the day with their second lab on the response of earthworms (Phylum Annelida ) to external stimuli.  Homeworkà Lab report write ups.  Get a lab report in for lab #2 on yeast growth from last Friday and start putting together your lab report from today’s experiment- lab#3.

Science 7- Students submitted their yeast lab reports.  Some are still outstanding; get them in.  Jaguars had a lesson on the water and carbon cycles and their importance to ecosystems.  Students compared amount of water in the water cycle to the biomes characteristics.  Homework-  Finish Lab Report from Fridays Yeast Lab & Finish Water Cycle & Carbon Cycle worksheet questions.

Math 8-  Students had a homework check for workbook pages 29 & 30.  Integer rules for multiplication and division were tackled.  Students practiced sample problem in their workbooks.  Homeworkà finish all multiplication and division problems in workbook; WB exercises up to pg #39.

Tuesday Oct 14, 2014

Science 7- Students submitted their yeast lab reports.  Some are still outstanding; get them in.  Students got their first tests for science back.  Students entered corrections and had opportunity to ask questions.  Students were presented with their next project for the next little while.  Students are to report on the Northern Gateway Pipeline tentatively due for Friday Oct 24, 2014.  Class ended with a discussion on energy flow through ecosystems.  Homeworkà finish energy flow through ecosystems questions on worksheet and start researching about the Northern Gateway.

Math 8-  Students got back their chapter 1 tests and class went through the test answers marking in corrections if needed.  Time was allotted for questions and clarifications.  After the test was reviewed students started chapter two on Integers and were assigned workbook pages 29 &30 to complete for tomorrow.

Wood Technology  7- .  Students completed safety for additional power equipment and continued making their hand tools introductory “lap joint” project.  Students were reminded to bring back in their forms and course fee.

Science 8.  Science 8 students presented their cell models complete with songs, poems, and skits.  Very well done!  Presenting in front of peers is a very demanding task.  After presentations students wrote a quiz on cells and cell systems.  Homework-à start brainstorming what microbe/pathogen you’d like to create a ‘Wanted Poster’ for.

 

Math 7:  Students went over their chapter 1 tests.  Students entered corrections onto their tests and had time to ask questions.  After reviewing class’s test students started a new chapter on Integers.  Students started working on workbook questions on page 31 and were to finish it for tomorrow.  Homework WB pg 31.
